Does converting JPEG to PNG improve quality?
No. Converting a JPEG to PNG does not restore quality lost during original JPEG compression. The PNG version will be losslessly stored, but any artifacts from the original JPEG encoding remain. Converting to PNG is useful when you need to re-save or edit the image multiple times without further quality loss — PNG is a "safe" format for intermediate editing steps.
